About AVA

AVA are the leading promoters of beach volleyball events in Seattle (since 2006), at Alki beach for all levels of play semi-Pro to Juniors. AVA showcases the top talent in the North West region at events with an exciting  beach festival atmosphere at the prime beach in Seattle with thousands of spectators. AVA is an ecologically conscious not-for-profit organization that strengthens the local community and economy through healthy outdoor events and activities.

AVA was founded in 2006 by a group of passionate volleyball players with the goal to unify the North West beach volleyball communities and create a full scheduled series of the highest quality events (from Juniors through to adult Pro) and in doing so, maximizing growth opportunities for beach volleyball in the North West and help build the strong beach volleyball community we have today.

Alki beach has always been the premier location for beach volleyball in Seattle since the 80’s. The AVA (Alki Volleyball Association) is a not-for-profit organization that has grown over the past decades to be recognized as the premier beach event series in the North West for all divisions Juniors through semi-pro. With the highest level competition and largest showcase events in the North West.

In 2016 AVA expanded to add the spectacular coastal town of Seabrook on the Washington coast by running what has become the largest annual beach volleyball event in Washington state with 100+ teams and 20+ courts. The annual Seabrook event grows awareness of the North West region talent within the volleyball community nation wide. With a prize pool of $10,000 for top Open athletes, drawing talent form Canada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. Seabrook offers a free top coaches clinic in the state (with UCLA, UW and other top college coaches) for participants.

AVA is run today by Phillip van Rooyen and Susan van Rooyen (since ’06) on the side of their regular work, as a passion to help build local community through a healthy outdoor beach lifestyle. The first 5 years (’06 – ’10) AVA was run by Susan & Phillip van Rooyen, Patrick Henley and Tim Hamann. Many other beach community members have made positive contributions through their time and efforts over the years (either through setup or other contributions) bringing their positive energy to the great beach community we have today. Thanks goes to everyone.

AVA has been running the premier series beach events for Juniors and Adults in Seattle since ’06 at Alki beach and looks forward to continue growing this long standing tradition of beach volleyball events at Alki beach in Seattle since the early 90’s.
